UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd (UMWT), the sole official distributor of Lexus and Toyota vehicles in Malaysia, has announced a Special Service Campaign to replace the fuel pump on certain units of Lexus and Toyota models.
Based on information UMWT received from its principal, Toyota Motor Corporation, about 12,000 units of Toyota (Alphard, Camry, Corolla, Innova and Fortuner) and 1,500 units of Lexus (GS300, GS350, IS300, LC500 / 500H, LS460, LS500 / 500H, LS600H, NX200T / 300H, RC350 / 300H, RX350 / 450H and RX350 / 450) manufactured from 2013 to 2019, are affected by this campaign. These vehicles are distributed by UMWT. Any model not mentioned here are thus not affected by this campaign.
UMWT and Toyota is initiating this campaign as the safety of its customers is always the top priority. The affected vehicles are equipped with a fuel pump which may stop operating. If this were to happen, warning lights and messages may be displayed on the instrument panel and the driver may experience hesitation of engine power. This may result in a vehicle stall and there may be trouble restarting the engine. This scenario therefore could increase the risk of a crash while driving.
UMWT will officially notify all the affected vehicle owners to update the fuel pump unit at no charge. However, the replacement work should depend on the model.
For further information, owners of affected cars may contact any authorised Toyota Service Centre or call the Toyota Freephone at 1800-8-TOYOTA (869682).
