The Mazda CX-30 crossover was officially launched in Malaysia in January 2020. Now 5 months into the year, the CX-30 gets a new variant added to the existing line-up – the 2.0L SKYACTIV-G AWD. According to Bermaz, the official distributor of Mazda vehicles in Malaysia, this new all-wheel-drive petrol variant is imported from Japan like the rest of the range.
New Features
The CX-30 2.0L SKYACTIV-G AWD uses Mazda’s proprietary i-ACTIV AWD system that allows driving on a wider range of road surfaces, including rough roads. This all-wheel-drive system constantly monitors road conditions in real time and detects tiny variations in wheel speed that a driver would never notice. The system continuously and proactively controls the distribution of torque, which can range from full front-drive through to full 4-wheel-drive. The system not only provides solid and predictable handling for all-road performance, it also makes driving on poor road surfaces more efficient by all but eliminating wasteful tire-slippage.
The i-ACTIV AWD system also comes equipped with an Off-road Traction Assist system. The system works by distributing the driving force to the tires that are in contact with the road surface to maximize traction performance. Apart from the i-ACTIV AWD system and the Off-road Traction Assist system, the 2.0L SKYACTIV-G AWD retains the same specification as the 2.0L SKYACTIV-G High spec variant.
A Premium Choice
The CX-30 AWD is priced at RM176,059, to sit above the 2.0L SKYACTIV-G 2WD High spec (RM164,059) and the 1.8L SKYACTIV-D High (RM172,943.60).
All High spec variants are fitted with Mazda’s i-Activsense advanced safety features like the Adaptive Front Lighting System, Driver Attention Alert, High Beam Control, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Front and Rear Smart Brake Support and Mazda Radar Cruise Control (adaptive cruise).
To recap, the 2.0L SKYACTIV-G engine has peak output of 162hp @ 6,000rpm and 213Nm of torque @ 4,000rpm, and is mated to a 6-speed SKYACTIV-DRIVE automatic gearbox. The AWD version has a rated average fuel consumption of 6.5L/100km, just a little more than the 6.4L/100km of the 2WD variant. This crossover rides on 18″ wheels set to MacPherson struts in front and a torsion beam in the rear to maximise cargo space.
Updated 2.0L SKYACTIV-G Variant
Bermaz also announced that the base 2.0L Skyactiv-G variant, which is priced at RM145,759, has also been updated to include the Mazda Advanced Keyless Entry as well as Walk Away Lock features for added convenience.
The CBU MAZDA CX-30 range comes with a total of 8 colour body choices – Soul Red Crystal, Machine Gray, Jet Black, Deep Crystal Blue, Sonic Silver, Snowflake White Pearl, Titanium Flash and Polymetal Gray Metallic.
