Project Car: BMW318iS Restoration [Part 2] – Engine Out, Prep for Painting | YS Khong Driving

With the current Covid 19 situation, the progress on the BMW 318iS is going on at a snail’s pace, but it is okay with me, as it allows me to save up a little to pay the bills.

Everything is shaping up quite well, and once the painting is done, we have to marry the engine to the body again – We are waiting for one particularly difficult piece of the timing mechanism, the timing chain guide, that long black piece you can see on the left side of the chain in the video.

We had to move the car over to the mechanic to get the engine out, so that we can paint the engine compartment. The engine is being rebuilt at FD Jaya, and hopefully the chain guide can come in soon. Been looking all over the world at all the available sites, but it seems to be an elusive item.

The job is far from done – when the car gets mobile again, we will be looking at other chassis and interior parts.
