Honda Malaysia will be launching the all-new Honda City Hatchback soon, very likely within the month. This sporty all-new hatchback based off the City sedan is presented as “A Step Above” in its segment with its stunning design and trendsetting advanced features.
Stylish Exterior
The all-new City Hatchback uses the sporty and premium look similar to the sedan counterpart, and with an eye on the younger set of buyers. For a more exclusive appearance, the top-of-the-line City Hatchback RS e:HEV sports High-Gloss Piano Black Front Grille, Black Solid Wing and Gloss Black Door Mirrors, for a two-toned colour expression. It will also feature RS exclusive shapes in the Lower Front Grille, Fog Garnish and on the Rear Bumper. The Rear Bumper is specifically designed for a hatchback body style and is equipped with a sophisticated diffuser to give it a more youthful and sporty appearance. Additionally, the RS e:HEV and V variants are fitted with LED Headlights with LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL), LED Front Fog Lights, LED Rear Combi Lights as well as attractive 16-inch Alloy Wheels to further complement the sporty appearance of the car.
Versatile Interior
For space versatility as well as practicality, the City Hatchback also utilises Honda’s ULTRA Seats which is synonymous with the popular Jazz hatchback. The ULTRA Seats have 4 modes – Utility, Long, Tall, and Refresh, and allows the rear seats to be either folder flat or flipped up in order to creatively maximise rear storage space.
Another advanced and first-in-segment feature found in the City Hatchback is the Remote Engine Start which will provide convenience of remotely starting the engine and air-conditioning to cool it down before entering. This feature is only available in the RS e:HEV & V variants. Furthermore, the Rear Air Conditioning Ventilation provides added comfort and convenience for the rear seat passengers, in addition to the Electric Parking Brake (EPB) that enables the driver to activate and deactivate the parking brake with a lift and push of a button. This is also exclusively available in the RS e:HEV.
Powerful and Efficient Powertrains
The City Hatchback will come with two powertrains – e:HEV and Petrol. The e:HEV powertrain is only available for the RS variant. This is a 1.5L Sports intelligent Multi-Mode Drive (i-MMD) powertrain that delivers powerful and immediate response through two electric motors for effortless drivability and efficiency.
The e:HEV features Honda’s unique hybrid system that functions seamlessly combining the benefits of petrol engines and electric motors to provide fuel efficiency and power. This advanced powertrain delivers 109PS and segment revolutionary 253Nm of torque which is equivalent to a D-segment engine’s torque performance.
Meanwhile, the petrol models get a 1.5L DOHC i-VTEC engine which also produces highest in its class power of 121PS and a maximum torque of 145Nm. This offers an ideal balance of exciting performance with fuel efficiency for a hatchback body type.
Safety Features
Developed by Honda to meet the objective of “Safety for Everyone”, the City Hatchback is the first in its segment to offer the most complete package of Next Generation Advanced Safety Technology – Honda SENSING. This advanced safety system utilises a front wide view camera to better recognise road boundaries during day and night driving conditions. For now, Honda SENSING is available only in the City Hatchback RS e:HEV. The features include Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS), Road Departure Mitigation (RDM), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), and Auto High Beam (AHB).
There is an additional segment-first safety feature available and this is fitted to the RS e:HEV and V variants – Honda LaneWatch. This is a camera-based system advanced safety technology which reduces blind spots by providing real-time visual in the infotainment system when left turn signal is activated or LaneWatch button is pressed.
According to Honda Malaysia Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Madoka Chujo, offering the City in hatchback form is a key milestone for the brand. “Hatchbacks are well-known for its sporty and cool design in a compact size, which also gives an impression of a car that is easy to be driven everywhere”, she said. “Honda Malaysia now offers customers with best in class torque performance as well as advanced technological features, all housed in the stylish and sporty All-New City Hatchback”.
Ms. Chujo added, “Nevertheless, Honda is not new to the hatchback segment in Malaysia as the popular Jazz which was introduced back in 2003 has sold more than 122,000 units to date. The Jazz is well-known for its practicality and versatility, and is highly popular as one of Malaysians’ favourite urban car. We believe with the introduction of the All-New City Hatchback, this model will raise the benchmark to be another game-changer in the market and soon to be Malaysians’ most favourite hatchback car.”
