Drive to Mt. Kinabalu with 2025 Proton X70 – Media Drive In Land Beneath The Wind | YS Khong Driving
This time Proton decided to take the X70 up to Mount Kinabalu, to not only let our West Malaysian media to test the new 2025 model on Sabah roads but also to include East Malaysian media as well.
It was a great experience insofar as the local sights and sounds was concerned but the busy road and an inexperienced convoy team leader resulted in a long and protracted crawl – the sights were refreshing though, and I enjoyed this long overdue revisit to another of my favorite mountains. On the way down the mountain we were released to drive on our own, and we did manage to get in a little bit of driving.
As expected the X70 delivered as promised, doing well on the many corners.
The vehicle, being mechanically similar to the outgoing model, looks sleeker and more refined, and performance is as expected.
The power and torque of 177PS and 255Nm of torque respectively, is more than enough to do the job. However, with more powerful competitors hailing from the same source country, the power-hungry buyers could start looking elsewhere.
The 3-cylinder setup is adequate and if nobody mentioned it, perhaps half its users wont even know the difference – however it is common perception or mis-conception, this bias against 3 cylinder engines, and there are many competitors offering 4 cylinder powerplants, and these alternatives may sway some people away.
Overall, I would say the pricing of the X70, with the current rebate scheme, makes it an excellent buy.
Correction: 01:54 Oops! I meant to say X70!
