If you attended the Malaysia Autoshow 2024, you might have spotted a new name on the scene: Jetour. But who exactly is Jetour? Positioned as a sub-brand under the Chery umbrella, alongside names like Jaecoo, Omoda, and Chery itself, Jetour operates independently and will do so in Malaysia as well. The brand plans to launch up to four SUV models, starting with the Jetour Dashing and X70 Plus, which is anticipated to arrive in early 2025.
This news was shared at the Jetour Global Travel+ Conference in China, by Kevin Xu, vice president of Jetour Auto International, who confirmed that the Dashing and X70 Plus, initially previewed at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024 in May, would soon be available locally. A significant part of Jetour’s strategy involves local production, as Xu stated that all vehicles introduced in Malaysia, including the rugged T2 off-road SUV expected in Q3 2025, will be assembled in CKD form. Although the specific local assembly partner remains confidential due to regulatory requirements, this CKD approach reflects Jetour’s commitment to local production.
The Jetour T2, recently launched in China, brings a fresh approach to the rugged SUV market with its “retro-modern” design, inspired by the classic Land Rover Defender. This model boasts robust off-road capabilities, with features including a high ground clearance and a durable steel frame to withstand challenging terrain. The T2’s interior is equipped with a 15.6-inch touchscreen, a Sony sound system, and a high-tech 540° panoramic parking system, providing both luxury and utility for off-road enthusiasts.
Meanwhile, the Jetour T1 is designed for those who prefer a more urban SUV experience. Similar in structure to the T2, but with a more rounded, city-friendly design, the T1 does not include the spare tire on the tailgate, aiming to blend style with subtle off-road capabilities. This model sits below the T2 in Jetour’s lineup, making it a practical choice for urban drivers who occasionally seek adventure outside of the city.
With an upcoming lineup that includes the more family-oriented Dashing and X70 Plus, as well as the rugged T5 expected in 2025 in China, Jetour is positioning itself as a versatile brand in Malaysia’s SUV market, catering to both adventurers and family drivers alike.
